I thought the trajectory of the story in the second book was too predictable, but this is the only relatively major problem I had with Essex County.
The stories are told from different perspectives and the transitions were neat; however, at times, the shift in perspective left me confused for a page or two.
The three books are interlinked but remain fairly linear; I did not find it hard to piece together a grand narrative.

Essex County is 500-pages long, but it does not contain a lot of dialogue; it is not a long read. I would say it is worth a buy at cover price, and your time.
